Try managing your library for a bit and then go back to Plex. You can point it to the same library files as Plex. Try setting up an Audiobookshelf server and play around with it. That is fine, but it doesn’t mean Plex is good for audiobooks. I understand this is a weird setup, but it is frustrating. Audiobookshelf just looks for the existence of files, so it doesn’t cost money to scan. So to have my books automatically show up in Plex, I have to spend a ton of money to have periodic scans on. Downloads from b2 cost money, and rclone doesn’t support the file system watcher. A Plex scan makes rclone download around 20gb out of a 200gb library for some reason. I migrated to using Backblaze b2 for storage. Even with the audnexus plugin, matching books is finicky and often screws things up.Ī recent issue for me is how the Plex file system scanner works. If I need to edit some metadata, either I have to manually mount my files and modify them with some program, or somehow remember if “Artist” or “Album Artist” or “Composer” mean the book writer or the reader, or something else. If I have to do any administration, there are a ton of options that I don’t care about and never will. So I have to run a super heavyweight software just to provide a server for prologue. One important part of that is that I don’t use Plex for movies/TV/music. So every little thing is a hack on top of the Plex software. Mostly it’s that Plex is not designed around audiobooks.
